Excerpt: ... may reverently conceive it to have been an object worthy of God to commission his servants in a miraculous manner to deliver to the-world a system of truth calculated to regenerate mankind, though the purity of that system of truth might be in some degree affected by the imperfection of the medium through which it was communicated. It is deserving of remark that St. Peter is represented to have wrought miracles of the most stupendous character, such as curing the lame man (Acts iii. 1 if.), striking persons dead by a word (Acts v. 5 ff.), healing the sick by his shadow (Acts v. 15), and even raising the dead (Acts ix. 36 ff.), at a period when, though illuminated by the Holy Ghost (John xx. 22; Acts ii. 4, 16 ff. 33), he was still in ignorance of an important doctrine of Christianity, viz., that the Gentiles were to be admitted into the church (Acts x. 9 ff. 28 ff. 34 ff. 45; xi. 1 ff. 18; xv. 7 ff.) Miraculous power does not therefore appear to constitute any certain criterion of the extent of inspiration. ยง 5. Whether the Text, 2 Timothy iii. 16, is sufficient to prove the Infallibility of Scripture. Another argument adduced to prove the infallibility of the Scriptures is founded upon the well-known passage, 2 Timothy iii. 14-17. "14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned, and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
